Orientation Day 29-07-2006
Hey Guys!
Today was another great AIESEC infused Day =p
While other people may have been spending their Saturday relaxing on a couch, or cramming for their tests, the Auckland LC decided to spend their weekend corrupting the minds of innocent potential newbies! We offered many bribes and promises throughout the day enticing them to sign up for the application process!

The day started off with an introduction and identity session facilitated by Francesca! It gave the people at the info session the opportunity to get to know a little bit more about what exactly is AIESEC's overall purpose/vision.

We then moved onto the m&m icebreaker game facilitated by Michael, where we tried to get to know the potential candidates a bit better. The questions started off really timid including "What do you study at University?", then suddenly Michael asks "Ok, so tell us something your Mother doesn't know about you?"
... it was great to see how open people were to sharing!
We then started up the good old "Yesterday, today, tomorrow" AIESEC History powerpoint to give everyone a better idea of what we've achieved as an organization over the past 50+ years. Levent facilitated this and decided he'd be evil and have a quiz afterwards including 20 of the most obscure AIESEC History questions known to mankind =p
Here is a picture of a few of our group members struggling to recall the number of internships AIESEC as an organization did in the 1950s.

After this we had foooooood! Not just any food though, really really gooood foooood! We recruited a little 16 year old called Lynn last semester, and her parents own a bakery which makes some amazing food! Utilizing the super cool network we managed to secure some top quality food! Seriously I gained like 3 kgs after that lunch!
But OD wasn't all about powerpoints and history lessons =p We needed to have a little bit of an introduction to AIESEC Culture.
So everyone was split into six groups representing a specific AIESEC value and were asked to create a group name and roll call to represent the value.
Of course demonstrations were needed to educate these "normal" uncorrupted individuals on what exactly a roll call was =p

Here are the Aucklander's providing a very competent rendition of the NZ sheep roll call.
Within 20 minutes some amazing roll calls were created, some of the best I've seen in a long time =p I have it all on tape and may be ripping of some of their efforts for AIESEC Auckland roll calls in the future!

Here is the Diversity Group performing their roll call (the big blur is a very enthusiastic Grace!)
Then we moved onto rotations, where everyone had the chance to rotate around the different functional groups and interns, so they would have the opportunity to understand the different career paths in AIESEC.
After this we moved onto a structure lesson conducted by myself which I've run for the past 2 years =p Amy came up to me afterwards and commented that every year my session materials become more and more complicated! At least she didn't use the words "more confusing" =p
After this Michael had everyone break up into different stages of the AIESEC experience, where they had to create a skit portraying that particular stage.

Michael, being the overachiever he is, didn't want just any ordinary role play though! Here he is handing out different props for us to use, and on top of this he also handed out a whole bunch of themes our skits had to embody.

This led to some very interesting presentations =p One presentation included Richard singing a line for about 2 minutes about a company looking for qualified graduates! Another play talked about a recruitment on campus (as shown in this picture). Their aim was to represent life in the 60's, so they used tinsel to do this ... cause apparently everyone wore tinsel back then =p
We closed out the day with some good quality summaries by Ting and Edris, we sang a big happy birthday to Michael, whose birthday is tomorrow and finally ended with about 3 line dances =p People weren't too freaked out ... really!
I want to thank the facilitators and organizers for doing such a good job! I honestly think it was one of the best Orientation Days I've ever been to! You should all be very proud of what you achieved!!
Yay!
